Maya & Her "Ridingcyle"

Jan 21, 2008 · by Jessica Hewitt

Maya & Olivia with Grandpa (Jeff’s Dad)

Let’s see, it’s been a while since I’ve actually given an update on the girls. Olivia and Maya both have new ‘tricks’ since I’ve last posted. Maya can now ride her tricycle. She received it from her Honey & Papa for Christmas, but couldn’t really ride it until this weekend. I’ve been working with her on it, but she couldn’t quite get the peddling down.

A few or so ago, we bought Maya the Elmo ‘Pottytime’ DVD because she is defiantly against using the potty. Physically, she is completely ready, however she has her mind made up that she will have nothing to do with it right now. Even though in my pre-children life, I swore I would never have any of those ‘gross books and movies’, I broke down and bought one. Paying for diapers and wipes for two children, and now formula since weining Olivia, finally broke my spirit. Why do I mention this DVD here? Well, the first time Maya rode her tricycle by herself she said, “Look! I’m riding like Elmo!” Yes, that’s right……we bought Maya an Elmo movie to teach her to use the toilet, and insted she learned to ride her tricyle. Did she learn that in addition to using the toilet? No. She learned that instead. Hopefully, some time in the near future, Maya will decide to move forward with potty training. For now, we are just making budget meals and suffering through it. 🙂

Olivia recently began babbling and is quite cute. She can also roll from her belly over to her back. She had already mastered rolling from her back to her belly, but she would get stuck and very angry about it. She’s at the stage where she isn’t crawling yet, but when you come back to the room after being gone for a minute or two, she is in a different place than when you left her.

Olivia and Maya are both just silly about each other. All Maya has to do is walk into the room, and Livy starts laughing. And Olivia is the first person Maya wants to see in the morning. I’ve moved to third place (behind Olivia and then Jeff). I know when my sister Ashlee comes back to town, that will shift me even further down the line. 🙂

Speaking of Ashlee, thank you to all of you who have been praying for her. She is back in Bangkok from Myanmar, and we are soooo glad! She is doing really well and has been having an incredible ministry over there. I miss her so and am ready for her to come back home. She is due to come back  at the beginning of March, I believe. Please keep her in your prayers.

    Hey Love!
I am pretty sure that you are crazy that I would ever get in the way of Maya's crazy love for her mom! She is such a doll on that little bike! I can't wait to see you guys soon. It won't be long at all! I can't wait to sit at dinner with all of you and share stories! You are so beautiful Jess! I miss your sweet heart! I will definitely call when I get to Hawaii.
